Just a Couple of Moms with Kids in the Fandom!
Hi! We are Carrie and Joelle, also known as The Moms of Furries! If this is your first time here, you might be wondering who the heck we are and how we got here!
We are simply a couple of mom friends (besties for life!) who wanted to support others in a fandom that has been such a positive part of our kids' lives, as well as ours. We both have families; yep, we both have the whole husbands-kids-dogs life. We are moms who juggle commitments, nag about homework, and get up every day hoping we get most of it right. We also happen to be part of the Furry Fandom.
If you've come here because you think we must be weirdos, you may be disappointed to learn we're pretty much like anyone else. Are we weird? You betcha! But only if you equate weird with silly and fun.
Years ago, our (then) teens asked to go to a furry convention. We didn't know much about the fandom, but what little we knew led us to believe it might be an adults-only type of thing. After much discussion, we decided that we would go! We felt that we could just leave and find another hotel if it was a terrible experience. When we arrived, it took about a second for us to realize how amazing this community could be! Sure there are adult aspects, as are in any fandom, but there are also opportunities to build friendships, to find your people, and to just be SILLY!
We decided we wanted to support other parents and young furries in the fandom so we created our YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/momsoffurries), got active on social media, and developed our Young Furry Chill Space!
We cherish our years being involved in the furry fandom. It has been a learning experience and a chance for us to become better people. We’ve been honored to hear thousands of very personal stories. We’ve laughed at millions of funny moments and if you see us at a convention you are just as likely to catch us dancing at a rave as tearfully having a moment in a corner with a friend.
If you are curious about the fandom, we’d love to hear your thoughts. If you have come to condemn us, be aware that hateful comments will be deleted and we will move on wishing you well.
The bottom line is that the Furry Fandom is an art-based community. If you belong to a community focused on wellness or zombies or anything in between, we hope it is as positive experience for you as this fandom has been for us.
